HERO Project - High Energy Objects

HERO is new project (since 2008) organised by Variable Star and Exoplanet Section of CAS and is pointed to observing of selected high energy sources.

HERO is acronym and means High EneRgy Objects

HERO objects can be divided to two basic ranges. Stellar sources of high energy and Extragalactic sources.

Stellar sources:
Mostly binaries with compact component emitting x-rays and gamma-rays due to various reasons:

  • Cataclysmic Variables
  • Low Mass X-Ray Binaries, LMXRB
  • High Mass X-Ray Binaries, HMXRB
  • New types

Extragalactic sources:
Beside stellar sources (mentioned above) many high energy emissions comes from cosmologic distancies:

  • Active Galactic Nuclei, AGN
  • Blasars and quasars
  • Gamma Ray Burst, GRB
  • Extragalactic supernovae
  • Luminous Blue Variables, LBV
