Two significant prices were awarded on the 48th Conference on Variable Star Research. The first one, J. Silhan price "The Observer of the year" is awarded for the excellent observational results and other extra activities in the field of variable stars research each year. This year Martin Mašek won J. Silhan price for his popularization activities and propagation of measuring of variable stars using DSLR. The second price was awarded extraordinary and it was given to Pavel Cagaš for his discovery of the 1000th variable star in the CzeV catalogue.
